Barry Steele in The Roy Orbison Story, Playhouse Whitley Bay

About This Event

Barry Steele has spent more than two decades earning standing ovations across the UK, Europe and beyond for his uncanny ability to recreate the voice, look and stage presence of Roy Orbison. This all-live multimedia production is a heartfelt journey through rock 'n' roll history, tracing the Big O's remarkable run of hits and the soaring, operatic vocals that set him apart from every other singer of his generation. Backed by a full live band, the show delivers the drama of those signature ballads with the musicianship the material demands. The evening widens out to celebrate the Traveling Wilburys too, the all-star group that placed Orbison alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, bringing a warmth and camaraderie to the second half. Steele and his musicians move between the tender and the triumphant, building to the big anthems that guarantee a rousing finish. It is a polished, affectionate tribute that appeals as much to newcomers as to those who remember these records first time around.
