Record Fairs & Vinyl in South Shields
Where to dig for vinyl around South Shields: the Cleadon record fair, the ninetytwo second-hand shop on Boldon Lane, and the bigger fairs and shops a short hop away.
South Shields has a genuine soft spot for vinyl, from a local collectors' fair to an independent shop stuffed with records and retro finds. Here is where to dig closer to home, and where to head when you want a bigger crate to flick through. Fair dates move through the year, so always check ahead before you travel.
The South Shields record fair
The town's own collectors' fair is held at All Saints Parish Hall in Cleadon Village (SR6 7UR), on the greener western edge of South Shields, and is run by the organiser behind Roker Records. It is a relaxed, hall-style fair with dealers' crates spanning soul, rock, jazz, indie and more, and it runs a few times a year rather than monthly. It is an easy morning out and well worth pairing with a walk on the coast afterwards. Check the current date before setting off, as the calendar changes through the year.
ninetytwo: records and vintage on Boldon Lane
For a permanent option in town, ninetytwo on Boldon Lane is an independent second-hand and vintage shop that sells records and tapes alongside retro art and posters, antiques, collectables and clothing. It is the kind of browse where you go in for a rummage and come out with something you did not know you were looking for, and a good first port of call for local crate-diggers.
Further afield
For a bigger day of digging, the region's strongest cluster of record shops is a short Metro or Shields Ferry ride away in Newcastle, including Reflex, Beatdown Records, RPM Music and Vinyl Guru, with 586 Records just over the river in Gateshead. There are also recurring fairs at Newcastle's Quayside and in the Durham area.
We have rounded them all up, with venues, organisers and how to check the latest dates, in our full regional guide to record fairs and vinyl shops in the North East.
