What's on and when

The event takes place at The Sutton Hall on Prince Edward Road on Sunday 23 August, running from 10am to 6pm. Entry costs just £1, and under-16s go free.

There is plenty to keep children busy, with bouncy castles and face painting on offer, plus live music from Charlotte Williams and Josh Bell through the day. Organisers have also lined up tombolas and baked goods for sale, with all proceeds going to charity.

Where the money goes

All the funds raised will go to Help for Heroes, the national charity that supports Armed Forces veterans as they move back into civilian life. The charity provides tailored help with physical and mental health, welfare and social needs, both for veterans and for their families.

It is a straightforward way for South Shields residents to spend an afternoon locally and put a bit back into a cause that matters to a town with deep military and maritime roots.

The event was reported by the Shields Gazette.
