About South Shields Westoe RFC
South Shields Westoe RFC is the town's rugby union club, based at Wood Terrace off Dean Road in NE33. It runs a 1st XV and 2nd XV in the RFU's national and divisional league structure alongside junior and mini sections, and holds Rugby First affiliation and Clubmark accreditation for the quality of its youth set-up. The ground sits in the middle of the Westoe end of town, a short walk from Dean Road and well served by local buses. The club's pitches and clubhouse double as a community venue. The clubhouse can be hired during the day and in the evenings for meetings, functions and parties, and the adjoining South Shields and Westoe Sports Club provides the bar and social side. The grounds have hosted large-scale community events over the years, including firework nights that in past seasons drew crowds in the thousands, though these are organised annually rather than guaranteed and are worth checking with the club directly.
