Corporate Christmas Party Venues in South Shields
Seafront suites, a cliffside cave bar, civic rooms and pub function suites: where a South Shields business can book a Christmas party or a festive team meal.
Most towns book the office Christmas party in a ring road hotel. South Shields has a seafront, a river mouth and a cliff with a bar inside it, so the setting does much of the work for you. The trade-off: good rooms go early, and pub function rooms fill through October.
The Sea Hotel
The Sea Hotel on Sea Road is the obvious first call for a larger party. Its refurbished Bramhall Suite takes up to 150 guests and the hotel lists corporate Christmas parties among the things the space is set up for, alongside its conference and banqueting facilities. With 34 en-suite bedrooms on site, it also solves the problem of colleagues travelling in from other offices.
Smaller teams need not take a suite: the hotel runs three dining spaces, including the Maritime Restaurant and the Asian fusion Buddha Lounge and Kitchen, so a table booking works too.
Best for: Best for a department party that wants a suite, a dancefloor and bedrooms upstairs.
Little Haven Hotel
Little Haven Hotel is on River Drive at the mouth of the Tyne, with 62 bedrooms and the Boardwalk Restaurant looking out over Littlehaven Beach. It runs its own Christmas party nights with entertainment, the useful option for a team of eight or ten who would rattle around in a hired room. Tribute acts have featured in previous seasons, so ask what is programmed before you commit.
The hotel also handles exclusive corporate functions and marquee hire, with bespoke catering rather than a fixed menu, and parking on site is free. Bookings go through the events team on 0191 455 4455.
Best for: Best for small teams who would rather join a shared party night than fill a room.
Hedworth Hall
Hedworth Hall on Dean Road in Westoe is a 1919 assembly-rooms building and home to two of the largest function rooms in the town, the Ballroom and the Temple Room. Both take either a sit-down meal or a buffet from the in-house catering team, and there is a resident DJ, which removes an item from your list. The period setting gives you a proper occasion without leaving town, and parking is free and off-road. Confirm capacities when you enquire.
Best for: Best for a traditional grand room with a buffet and a DJ already in place.
The Customs House
The Customs House at Mill Dam is the most flexible venue in town for anything with a programme attached. The Dalton Suite holds up to 110 for a formal reception, the Gallery takes up to 60 for champagne and canapes, and the River View Room seats up to 24 over the Tyne, a good board-level festive dinner. There is also a 132-seat cinema and the 439-seat theatre. The obvious move is to pair a meal with whatever is on stage, and December here means pantomime.
Best for: Best for combining food with a show, or a small senior team dinner.
South Shields FC
South Shields FC offers eight hireable rooms across two sites: Mariners Park in Simonside, which has carried the Wolf Competitions Stadium naming rights since August 2026, and Harton & Westoe Miners Welfare on Low Lane. They range from named lounges and the Stand Bar to a marquee taking up to 200 guests, or 170 with a dancefloor.
The club works with local catering partners on everything from tea and coffee to a full sit-down meal, and all rooms have projector screens or televisions. That matters if the party is really an awards night with a presentation bolted on the front. Free room hire promotions have run here, so it is worth asking.
Best for: Best for a big party or awards night that needs a screen and a microphone.
The Marsden Grotto
The Marsden Grotto is cut into the cliff at Marsden Bay and offers function room and cave hire alongside its bar, seafood restaurant and heated beach terrace. Nobody forgets a Christmas do held inside a cliff. Two caveats: it is a taxi ride from the town centre, and high tides can affect access.
Best for: Best for the party people will still be talking about in February.
Pub function rooms
The New Crown Hotel on Mowbray Road runs festive menus alongside a function room quoted at around 120 guests, with buffet packages for larger numbers, plus its own car park. Book a festive menu before 31 October 2026 and the pub gives a £10 voucher for a future visit.
The County on Sunderland Road is the value option, a Sizzling Pubs site built around grills and pub classics, with a function area it offers to local groups. Neither is glamorous, but a room you are not paying for leaves more budget behind the bar.
Best for: Best for a straightforward festive meal where the bill matters more than the setting.
Civic rooms, clubs and a team day
South Shields Town Hall is the civic option, its Edwardian Reception Room taking up to 120 and the Ante Room seating 50, booked through South Tyneside Council. It suits a daytime awards presentation or a drinks reception rather than a late night. South Shields Westoe RFC hires out its Wood Terrace clubhouse, with the adjoining sports club providing the bar. And Jarrow Hall takes corporate bookings across its heritage site, catering by Hive Coffee Company, for clients that have included Barclays, Siemens and Sage.
Questions to ask before you book
Pin down the food format first: a sit-down meal and a buffet behave very differently in a room with a dancefloor. Ask what a drinks package covers, whether it is per head or a bar tab, and get the finish time in writing. The Metro's yellow line terminates in the town centre, ideal for anyone travelling from Jarrow, Hebburn or Newcastle, but last trains run well before a party night ends, so book taxis in advance. Free parking is a real differentiator, and Marsden and Simonside are taxi territory whatever you do.
