A free exhibition bringing Pierre Mignard's 1691 portrait 'The Marquise de Seignelay and Two of her Children' to South Shields as part of the National Gallery Masterpiece Tour.
About This Event
South Shields Museum & Art Gallery hosts a genuine National Gallery masterpiece: Pierre Mignard's sumptuous 1691 portrait of the Marquise de Seignelay, posed as the sea goddess Thetis with two of her children. The Masterpiece Tour brings this grand piece of French Baroque portraiture to the North East, exploring how status and power were performed through paint. The display is free and runs from 29 August to 7 November. A rare chance to see a National Gallery work on Tyneside.
