About Greggs
Greggs on King Street is a South Shields branch of the much-loved bakery that began in Newcastle, and it remains a firm regional favourite. It serves the familiar range of savouries, sandwiches, sweet bakes and hot drinks to take away, and is a quick, affordable stop in the pedestrianised town centre. There are several Greggs branches around the town; this is the central King Street one.
As a North East institution, Greggs carries genuine local affection here, and the value and speed keep it busy through the day. For a sit-down coffee with more character, the independent cafes around Ocean Road and the seafront are well worth seeking out.
