The New Crown Hotel is a large traditional pub on Mowbray Road in South Shields, open daily from 11am to 11pm with food served through to 9pm. The kitchen deals in pub classics, fish and chips, burgers and steaks alongside a Sunday roast and lighter hand-held bar food, and cask ales are kept in addition to the usual draught range. Sport is central to the appeal, with large screens and stadium-style sound covering football, rugby, Formula 1, darts and racing, and the pub also programmes live music and quiz nights.

It is one of the better-known function venues in the town outside the seafront hotels. The function room is quoted at around 120 guests, with buffet packages available for larger gatherings, making it a practical choice for christenings, wakes, birthdays and work Christmas parties, and festive menus run through December. Facilities include a car park, beer garden, pool table and dartboard, step-free access, and a dog-friendly policy throughout.
