About This Event

Step back nearly two thousand years as Arbeia Roman Fort welcomes a living history group portraying the Tungrians — the auxiliary soldiers and their families who garrisoned Rome's northern frontier in the early second century. Visitors can meet the re-enactors, see reconstructed arms, armour and everyday equipment, and learn how these men and women lived, worked and fought on the edge of the empire. Arbeia offers free admission, and the reconstructed West Gate, commanding officer's house and barracks make an atmospheric backdrop for a family day out. The event runs across both days of the weekend.
