About Alum Ale House

The Alum Ale House is a real ale pub on Ferry Street in South Shields, on the south bank of the River Tyne beside the Shields Ferry landing and close to the Market Place. One of the oldest pubs in the town, it serves up to twelve cask ales from its hand-pulls, including its house Alum Ale alongside regularly rotating guest beers, and offers tasting boards in third-of-a-pint measures. The bar also stocks keg beers, draught and bottled ciders, wines, and a wide spirits range, with toasties and bar snacks available. A wheelchair-accessible ramp and decking were added in 2023, and it enjoys riverside views.
