The Stags Head
Grade II listed pub dating from 1897, on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. Original tilework, acid-etched windows, and an attractive alcove back bar.
About The Stags Head
The Stag's Head is a historic pub on Fowler Street in South Shields town centre, built in 1897 and Grade II listed in 2010 following a successful application by CAMRA. It appears on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors for its remarkably intact Victorian fittings, which include an unusual two-storey arrangement of one bar above another in response to the narrow site. Both bars retain their original counters and bar-backs, and features include floor-to-ceiling tiling in the entrance lobby, stained and etched glass, a stag's head above the ground-floor fireplace, and a signed advertising mirror. The pub won the local CAMRA Pub of the Year title several times between 2008 and 2018.
